My son and I have finished Chapter 18 (magnetic fields), though I still want us to wind a solenoid and measure its magnetic field, comparing the results to the predictions of my son’s program.
Chapter 19 gets into simple circuits, which both my son and I should already know (me from preparing to teach the Applied Circuits course, he from his science fair project in 9th grade, where he wrote a DC and AC circuit analyzer program). We’ve not looked at the distribution of surface charges, though, and that seems to be the main point of Chapter 19. Doing the homework using only the microscopic analysis of Chapter 19 (without using Ohm’s Law, for example) will be the real challenge for this chapter.
