AP Course Ledger

If you are looking for local high schools that offer a particular Advanced Placement course, either for your student to learn the material or for them to take an AP exam, you might find the AP Course Ledger useful. It supposedly lists all the AP courses that have passed audits.  You can’t get the whole thing unless you are an “admissions officer from a higher education institution or an official at a state department of education”, but you can search by high school or by city name.

For Santa Cruz, CA, it lists eight places offering AP courses, including 2 I did not know about:

  • University of California College Prep Online (with the address of the UCSC business offices on Delaware St)
  • Merit Academy Education of Excellence (with no address, just a PO box)

The UC online listing has 14 AP courses listed (including all three physics options, but not chemistry).  I wonder now whether they would have provided a place for my son to have taken the AP Physics C exam this year, or whether they are just a convenience address for the online course, with no exam offered.

The Merit Academy seems to be a one-on-one tutoring service, with course audits for 11 AP courses, including chemistry.  This might be worth looking into if my son can’t get into a chemistry class at Cabrillo College in the fall, though there is some question about what chem labs they can offer, if they don’t have a physical presence.
